Self-esteem or self-worth is a generalized attitude towards oneself that influences mood and has a strong influence on a certain range of personal and social behaviors. The basis of self-esteem is self-knowledge, or a set of judgments and opinions that an individual applies to oneself. These judgments and opinions concern physical, mental and social characteristics. Psychologists distinguish two types of attitudes related to general self-esteem: self-acceptance and self-rejection. Self-acceptance is defined as an attitude characterized by faith, trust and healthy respect for oneself. Such an attitude makes an individual able to perform and use their abilities, and is also able to correct their behavior under the influence of others. People who accept themselves have a positive opinion of themselves and feel good. Self-rejection is understood as an attitude towards oneself that is connected with experiencing a sense of injustice, guilt, inferiority or other experiences related to resentment and self-pity. Such a person does not appreciate their own successes and overestimates their failures, strives to humiliate themselves, sometimes even hates themselves.
Community Building Workshops cause self-esteem to increase because we start to be noticed by other people. We stop excluding ourselves, rejecting ourselves and sharing our intimate experiences with others makes us feel that other people trust us. Which significantly increases self-esteem. We also learn a lot about ourselves, we get to know ourselves through the friendly and deep feedback that we receive from the workshop participants.
