Malidoma Some, a man who was born to 'be a friend to one's enemies' (that is the meaning of his name) and spent a large part of his life in his native tribe, claimed that the most important thing that the world today lacks is the ability to appreciate others. And it is also something that all people, without exception, need. The ability to be seen, valued and appreciated. We need it like air. Without it, we wither.
Community-building workshops are an excellent opportunity to practice appreciation. It comes both naturally and during staged exercises and dialogues. Appreciation and gratitude are typical emotions that emerge in the fourth phase of the community-building process.
